William Roth

Department of Neurology

William Roth is a neurointensivist who specializes in the management of severe acute neurological disorders, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and status epilepticus. His research interest is understanding the role of the gut microbiome in provoking inflammation after acute injury to the central nervous system.

His research has been published in Stroke, eBioMedicine, Brain, Neurology, and Critical Care Medicine.

Roth earned a BS with distinction in psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He graduated summa cum laude with an MD from Chicago Medical School, where he received the school’s Alumni Association Scholastic Achievement Award and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in neurology at Columbia University, where he was named chief resident. He then pursued a neurocritical care fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Previously, he was a clinical assistant professor and neurointensivist at the University of Florida and the University of Chicago.
