Michael McCartin is an emergency medicine physician with a broad range of professional interests in the field of emergency medical services (EMS), including flight medicine, urban search and rescue, tactical medicine, mass gathering medical care, and critical care transport. His current work focuses on EMS fellowships for confined space rescue teams and an EMS telemedicine pilot. He is also writing a book chapter on transportation of the critically ill patient.
He has presented his work at the University of Chicago Annual Charles B. Huggins Research Symposium and the Pritzker School of Medicine Research and Innovations in Medical Education Conference.
McCartin received his BS in biological sciences from Arizona State University and his MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a residency in emergency medicine and a fellowship in emergency medical services at the University of Chicago. He is a former United States Air Force Pararescue specialist.
