Megan Applewhite

Megan Applewhite specializes in the surgical management of complex thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal endocrinopathies. Her research interests include vulnerable patient populations (incarcerated and psychiatric patients), military medical ethics, research ethics, and the surgeon-patient relationship. She is the associate director of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics, as well as a senior bioethics consultant for the Department of Defense Medical Ethics Center.
Her research has been published in Journal of the American College of Surgeons, American Journal of Surgery, American Medical Association Journal of Ethics, Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, Journal of Surgical Research, Immunological Investigations, Endocrine Practice, Surgery, World Journal of Surgery, and Annals of Surgical Oncology.
Applewhite earned an AB in African and African American studies from the University of Chicago. She received her medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York and completed a general surgery residency at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. She then completed endocrine surgery clinical and research fellowships at the University of Chicago, along with a fellowship in clinical ethics at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics.
