Joseph B. Meleca

Joseph B. Meleca earned a BS in biochemistry and molecular biology with a minor in computer science and engineering, as well as an MD from Michigan State University. He completed a residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the Cleveland Clinic and a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive microvascular surgery at Indiana University.
His research has been published in American Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery; The Laryngoscope; Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology; and International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology.
Meleca is a board-certified otolaryngologist who specializes in head and neck surgery and facial plastic and microvascular reconstruction. His clinical research includes new staging criteria for osteoradionecrosis (ORN) of the mandible—a complication from cancer-related treatment like radiation—as well as developing new treatment options for ORN, including the fascia lata rescue free flap. He is interested in medical education with teaching residents and medical students.
