
Jana Richards

Jana Richards’s work aims to ensure that patients in the community receive safe, high-quality health care. Her interests include initiatives to increase patient satisfaction and to address maternal health disparities and promote birth equity.
She previously chaired the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Norwegian American Hospital, and served as an attending physician at Amita Health’s Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, which she represented as Amita’s lead physician in the Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative.
Richards received her bachelor’s degree cum laude in biology from Spelman College and her medical degree from Meharry Medical College. She initiated her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Carilion Health System in Roanoke, Virginia, and finished her training at the University of Chicago. During her residency at the University of Chicago, she received a Medical Student Teaching Award from Pritzker School of Medicine students for her exceptional skills as an educator.
