Ilayna Mehrtens

Ilayna Mehrtens is a pediatric psychologist who specializes in psychosocial oncology and hematology in adolescent and young adult (AYA) populations. Her research interests include risk and resiliency among AYAs receiving cancer care, promoting equitable medical and mental health care, and addressing health disparities in underserved populations, particularly LGBTQ+ children, adolescents, and young adults.

Her work has been published in Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.

Mehrtens earned a BS in psychology from the University of New Orleans and received an MA and PhD in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University. She completed a predoctoral residency in pediatric psychology at Rush University Medical Center and a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology at the University of Chicago.
