Clayton Brinster

Clayton Brinster’s clinical practice focuses on complex endovascular aortic surgery and urgent carotid surgery, and the development of multispecialty protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of carotid web. He also serves as co-director of the University of Chicago Medicine Center for Aortic Diseases.

His research has been published in Journal of Vascular Surgery; Journal of the American College of Surgeons; Journal of Vascular Surgery Cases, Innovations, and Techniques; Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery; Annals of Thoracic Surgery; Journal of Endovascular Therapy; Vascular; American Journal of Physiology–Heart and Circulatory Physiology; and Biology of Reproduction.

Brinster earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. He received an MD from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a general surgery residency and was selected as chief resident. He pursued a fellowship in vascular and endovascular surgery at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by an advanced endovascular surgery fellowship at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, in Spain. He then completed an endovascular aortic surgery fellowship at Klinikum Nürnberg, in Germany. Most recently, he served as a senior staff surgeon and director of the Ochsner Aortic Center in New Orleans.
