Department of Radiology
Aleksandrs Kalnins is a radiologist who serves as the vice chair of wellness for the Department of Radiology and as the director of neurovascular imaging for the Division of Neuroradiology. His research focus is on the neuroimaging of acute stroke and stroke quality/process improvement, with an interest in hospital quality and process improvement, as well as employee wellness and engagement.
Kalnins received an AB in economics from the University of Chicago and spent a year abroad at the University of Paris X, Nanterre. He earned MBA and MD degrees through the Medical Scholars Program jointly sponsored by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. He completed a transitional year residency program at Spectrum Health, in partnership with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, before completing a radiology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a neuroradiology fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. During his fellowship, he was a recipient of the Malinda Mitchell Award for Excellence in Quality and Service from Stanford University Medical Center.
