Vijaya Rao cares for patients with a variety of digestive diseases, with a particular interest in celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening, and women’s health issues within gastroenterology. Her research interests include the ethical implications of invasive procedures as well as clinical trials. She is particularly interested in the appropriate utilization of endoscopic procedures and also the implementation of an ethics curriculum within gastroenterology fellowships. She serves as the director of student and resident rotations for the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
Rao received her MD from Loyola University Chicago and also completed her residency there. She completed a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at the University of Chicago, during which time she was selected as chief fellow. She also completed a fellowship in medical ethics at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago.
