Risi Kondor’s current research interests lie in the areas of machine learning, statistical learning theory, non-commutative harmonic analysis, computational group theory, harmonic analysis on graphs and networks, theoretical computer science, and applications in computational physics and biology.

Kondor is a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Pattern Matching and Artificial Intelligence, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Journal of Machine Learning Research (editor), and Machine Learning Journal. He has taught the tutorial “Representation Theoretical Methods in Machine Learning,” an eight-lecture mini-course at the Gatsby Unit, and “Group Theory and Machine Learning” at the University of Cambridge.

He received his PhD in computer science from Columbia University in 2007, his MS in knowledge discovery and data mining from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002, and his BA in mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 1995. He also holds a diploma in computational fluid dynamics from Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics and a diploma in physics from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest.

Kondor joined the University of Chicago faculty in 2011.
