Kelly Nelson received her MD from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 2011. She completed her residency, followed by neonatology fellowship training, at the University of Chicago. As a fellow with the University of Chicago Medicine’s MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics, she serves on the Ethics Consult Service Committee. She will assist in further developing the Fetal Center in partnership with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Section of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her research interests center on prenatal counseling and responding to consults in medical ethics. This training and experience will be essential in the development of a new Perinatal Counseling Service, for mothers faced with the imminent delivery of babies at the limits of viability who must contend with complex ethical decision-making, for which the involvement of a bioethicist/neonatologist in their care will be crucial.
