Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
John Moroney is a gynecologic oncologist with an interest in novel biologic chemotherapeutics, early clinical trials, and minimally invasive surgery. He recently retired from the US Navy Medical Corps as a commander after 20 years of active duty service.
He is the principal investigator at the University of Chicago for NRG Oncology, a National Cancer Institute–supported clinical trials cooperative group. He is responsible for supporting complicated surgical cases in obstetrics and gynecology. Moroney is a member of the Felix Rutledge and Robert C. Park Societies, as well as the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Moroney received his MD from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. After completing a gynecologic oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, he served as a staff gynecologic oncologist at Wright-Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, and more recently at the US Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. Before joining the University of Chicago, he was an assistant professor and associate residency program director for the Wright State University/Wright-Patterson Medical Center Integrated Residency Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology, where he was the recipient of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Excellence in Teaching Award.
